PRYL Boys Move to CTL
by posted 11/15/2016

PRYL BOYS MOVE to CTL

The PRYL Board of Directors, along with our coaches, are proud to announce that we have joined the Crossroad Township League (CTL) for all Boy levels from U9 – U15.

PRYL will no longer participate in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL).

This is an exciting step in the evolution of our program that allows us to play against teams that are more local to Plymouth, play in a challenging environment, and build a stronger, more competitive program.  Most importantly, we strongly feel that all of our players will benefit from this change.

From a player’s perspective, there will be little change.  We will still have multiple Boys teams at the U9-U15 levels, and each age group will continue to practice together.  U9s will participate in 3 jamboree style events during their season, likely to be held at the Plymouth Sports Complex.  U11s will operate exactly the same as they have in the past: 2 Town Teams and 1 Select Team.  The U11 Select Team will be made up of players selected from both Town teams.  There will be 2 teams in each of the Boys U13 – U15 levels: one Select team; and one Town team.  Both teams will play in a competitive division with Team standings, game scores being kept, and a year-end playoff tournament.

Players will be placed on either the Select or Town teams based on player evaluations by the coaching staff, just as we have done in the past.  The benefits to this type of breakdown are significant.  Stronger players will have the opportunity to participate at a higher level on the Select team.  Select coaches will be able to spend less time on skills and more time on strategy and game situations, thus building greater lacrosse IQs and more confident players.  Town teams will place more emphasis on improving skills and becoming accustomed to the speed of game play.  Both Select and Town players will have an opportunity to compete against players with similar skills, which will build their confidence and give them more game time than they may have had in the past.

Players at both levels will also be able to play up or play down.  Players on Select that are not getting as much playing time, or Town players that are excelling, will have an opportunity to play both Select and Town.  The coaching staff will have discretion to invite players to play up or down.  Decisions will be based on player commitment and performance and the needs of the team.   Dividing teams in this manner allows players to practice and play in games with like-skilled peers so that each player’s potential learning curve, interest in the game and desire to continue to play are maximized.

Additional details will be provided in the coming days when registration is opened and costs are announced.  At that time we will provide additional details for each level.  We are very enthusiastic about this change and building our program into one of the best on the South Shore.
